King Carl XVI Gustaf Awards Scandinavian Airlines
Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) was honoured to receive a Swedish Business in Australia Award during a reception at the Sydney Opera House as part of the state visit by King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden.
His Majesty presented the award for ‘Outstanding Promotion of Sweden in Australia’ to Scandinavian Airlines’ General Manager Australia Lars Sandahl Sorensen.
SAS was one of four businesses recognised by the Swedish Australian Chamber of Commerce and the Swedish Trade Council for its significant success and raising the profile of Sweden in Australia (along with kikki:K; Holmen Paper; and Volvo Commercial Vehicles).
“Together with the Australian travel trade and media SAS takes a very active role in promoting Sweden to the general public and we are thrilled to be recognised with this special award,” says Mr Sandahl Sorensen. “We have all seen a very positive development in travel between Australia and Sweden.
“In 21 years of operation here SAS has never had direct services to Australia but, in cooperation with Star Alliance partners and Qantas, we have developed a large customer base and are a market leader between Australia and Scandinavia.”
Earlier this week Their Majesties officially opened the Swedish Living exhibition at Scandinavium, one of the Sweden promotions the airline has supported this year. SAS was a founding partner in the March 2005 Swedish Style exhibition profiling Swedish business, design and culture.
SAS actively partners with other Swedish companies to leverage their common Swedish heritage and raise product awareness. In addition to supporting joint promotional activities with these key partners, SAS also offers competitive business travel solutions to Swedish companies with operations in Australia. Likewise, Australian companies doing business with Sweden are supported in a similar way.
