Kiwi House of Travel buys Aussie Fiji and Pacific Specialist Holidays
Sydney based Fiji and Pacific Specialist Holidays (FPSH) has been bought by New Zealand’s largest privately owned travel retailer, House of Travel, with House of Travel having signalled to the trade in July last year it was serious about entering the Australian market with its appointment of ex managing director of Harvey World Travel, Barry Mayo as a management consultant on the Australian market place.
Barry Mayo has since become a director of the House of Travel Group in New Zealand, with Mayo rating the model used by FPSH highly, saying it is innovative, leading edge and very successful.“We were very impressed with the way in which FPSH has carved a niche for itself in the Australian market, they are highly regarded by its suppliers and its a great business.”
Mayo described the purchase as a modest one, adding, “This is an opportunity for House of Travel to dip our toe in the Australian market, however it will continue to be run by the existing local senior managers, all of whom have proven abilities and are very experienced operators.”
While staff and suppliers are being notified of the ownership change Mayo stressed is would be business as usual under current managing director Roger Wellings.
