Kiwis told to be nice to Aussies
It appears that tourism authorities in New Zealand are demanding that Kiwis behave more kindly towards Australian visitors, with Tourism New Zealand launching an advertising campaign aimed at persuading New Zealanders to be nicer to their trans Tasman neighbours.
Failing a complete change of attitude, they are being asked to at least tone down their insults as officials become concerned that the slurs may affect tourism in the country, adding, “We rib each other, there is no doubt about it and we know noone wants to get a ribbing the whole time, Tourism New Zealand CEO George Hickton told the Australian Associated Press.
He added, “I have heard it and thought people should back off”.
The advertising campaign itself has come in for some ribbing from newspapers in the country, with the New Zealand Herald labelling it Be Nice to Australians Month!
Tourism New Zealand is hoping that the campaign will attract even more Australian tourists to New Zealand than currently.
