Korean tour company to sue Viking over deadly Danube collision
The tour agency which organized the sightseeing cruise which collided with a Viking ship on the River Danube plans to sue the cruise company.
Korean agency Very Good Tour said it will start legal action against Viking once more details of the deadly collision are known.
"We’ll decide on our position after the investigation result comes out, but we plan to take legal action against the cruise operator, owner and the captain," the company told local media.
"We’re not sure whether we will do so or the insurance company will, but there will be action taken because it is related to compensation for our customers."
Seven of its clients died in the accident aboard the the Hableany boat as it hit Viking Sigyn.
The Ukranian captain of the Viking ship was detained as a suspect over ‘reckless misconduct in waterborne traffic leading to mass casualties’.
Hableany was carrying 30 South Korean tourists, three South Korean tour guides and two Hungarian crew when the collision occurred near the Margit Bridge.
After the accident Viking said in a statement: "Sadly, there have been reports of fatalities and we offer our heartfelt condolences to those affected by this tragic accident. There were no injuries to Viking crew or Viking guests."
The Viking vessel was cleared to sail as scheduled on Friday.
The agency arranged for victims’ family members to fly out to Hungary on Friday.
Very Good Tour as well as other major Korean tour companies said they will suspend upcoming cruise programs on the Danube.
Very Good Tour said it has seen a flood of cancellations and new bookings are only at about half the normal volume.
Hungarian authorities said Friday no other survivors have been found among the 21 passengers and crew who still remain unaccounted for.
