‘Large size passengers’ issue at Southwest

Sunday, 29 Mar, 2005 0

Southwest Airlines used to be accommodating to large size passengers, but now they are adopting a leaner….or is it meaner…attitude.

Overweight passengers are being asked to buy two seats even if an adjoining seat is empty, says USA Today. Southwest says in that case it will offer a refund.

The airline says the move comes after slimmer customers complained about the airline’s policy not being enforced.

Other airlines such as America West say they generally do all they can to find an empty adjoining seat. They say each case is an individual judgment call.

A California judge ruled several years ago that Southwest’s policy was not discriminatory and did not violate any civil rights.
