Lastminute.com has announced that UK managing director John Bevan is leaving the company just a week after leading the online retailer’s 10th anniversary celebrations at the ABTA Travel Convention.

Bevan, is going after 15 months in the top role to “pursue a new career”, the company said.

No other explanation was given for his departure.

“A recruitment drive is now underway, looking both internally and externally for a dedicated B2C leader to drive lastminute.com forward in the UK,” a statement said.

“In the interim, group managing director for lastminute.com Simon Thompson will assume leadership responsibility for the UK until a full-time replacement is appointed.”

Bevan joined the company four years ago when it purchased Online Travel Group. He has held a variety of roles starting as holiday director before taking responsibility for flights and then assuming the role of travel director.

He was promoted to the role of UK B2C managing director in July last year.

Group CEO Ian McCaig said: “John and I have worked extremely closely together over the past 15 months. He has been a pivotal figure in building the company during this time. I want to thank John and wish him well for the future.”
