Lastminute launches in Japan
Lastminute.com has launched a Japanese version of its website as part of a bid to expand its global presence to 10 countries.
The site, Lastminute.co.jp, will offer flights from 30 different airlines and rooms in more than 4,000 hotels, and will include a Tokyo restaurant booking service, gifts and entertainment tickets.
Lastminute said that, importantly, much of the newly sourced inventory will become available to all lastminute.com customers not just those living in Japan.
Chief executive of Lastminute.com Brent Hoberman said he expects the site to grow quickly and play an important role in the Japanese market. He said the Japanese travel market alone is worth approximately 152 billion euros (about £98 billion) annually.
Partners in the venture include Kinki Nippon Tourist Co, Nippon Travel Agency and Mitsubishi Corp/MC Capital Fund.
