Lawsuit: Huge ice block from JetBlue plane crashed into house
A California couple are suing JetBlue Airways for damaging their house and giving them a major fright while they were in their bedroom.
The couple claim a huge block of ice, described as ‘the size of watermelon’ crashed through the roof of their home.
Michael Reese and Leah Ferrarini’s house is located about seven miles from Los Angeles International Airport.
They claim the block of ice fell into their bedroom’ inches away from them.
It happened on New Year’s Day last year.
A FAA investigation revealed the ice likely fell from a JetBlue flight.
Court documents revealed the same plane had existing water issues and was suspected of dropping ice on a home in Massachusetts a few months earlier.
The couple are suing JetBlue for negligence, and curiously, trespass.
It caused about $360,000 worth of damage to the home, the suit says.
“Because they no longer feel safe in their home due to the incident, plaintiffs are forced to move from their dream home and find another place to live for which they will incur substantial costs,” it states.
They demand $300,000 for emotional distress; $300,000 for pain, suffering and inconvenience; plus $40,000 for current and future medical expenses.
“The incident has overall made them anxious and depressed, feeling unsafe in what was their dream home,” the complaint says.
The airline hasn’t given a response to the lawsuit.
