People are cutting back on shopping and eating out to ensure they can afford a summer holiday this year, according to a new study.
The poll of 1,013 Britons found that 53% are shopping and eating out less to guarantee their summer break.
But almost a quarter (24%) of those people planning to take a holiday are to cut down on excursions to keep the overall costs down.
The majority of people surveyed (95%) still plan to take a holiday this year despite the economic downturn.
Almost a fifth (19%) are looking to take four holidays over the next 12 months.
Stuart Nassos, managing director of Holiday Autos, which commissioned the research, said: “Britons regard their holiday as sacred and, should they have to, will budget throughout the year to make sure they can get away.”
