American Airlines is to install lie-flat seats in business class on aircraft serving transatlantic routes.

The US carrier also plans enchanced in-flight entertainment in business class on Boeing 767-300s and 777s. Larger and more spacious overhead bins are to be provided on 767-300s.

Improvements to the 767 business class cabin is to begin next year while new business class seats on the 777s will be installed from the following year.

Both aircraft types are used on long haul routes such as transatlantic and transpacific services.

The airline is also extending its Flagship Suites first class service to 20 additional 777s to provide a consistent product across the fleet.

The airline’s marketing executive vice-president Dan Garton said: “Our new business class product will provide our customers with a comfrtable and highly adjustable lie-flat seat, as well as quite a bit of work space and state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment.

“The new cabin enhancements on the Boeing 767-300s and the Boeing 777s will result in a consistent and highly competitive American product in the marketplace, and will deliver to American’s premium customers the products and services they value most.”
