Lonely goatherds in Manly!?
In conjunction with the sell-out performances of ‘The Sound of Music’ at St. Patrick’s Estate in Manly, the Austrian National Tourist Office & Emirates Airlines have run a creative on-line competition through a media partnership with the Manly Daily and the Northshore Times.
St. Patrick’s Estate – already the venue for a performance of the original Von Trapp Family during their World Tour in 1956 – provided a splendid stage for a big Charity production by the Sydney Vocal Arts Centre featuring a celebrity cast including MP Bronwen Bishop as the Baroness and TV actor Simon Westaway as Captain.
The winner of the competition, Chantelle Newton of Harbord, pictured with some of the cast including Bronwen Bishop (right) and Astrid Mulholland-Licht, Director of ANTO, had written her own cover-version of the song: “So long, farewell” explaining how she would say “Aufwiedersehen, good bye” to her boss as she was heading off to Austria.
Organisers of the charity production of “The Sound of Music” are considering making the show an annual event due to the widespread demand and the huge success of bringing together the local community, celebrities and politicians to jointly perform for a good cause.
