Lost your bags? Amadeus wants to help

Tuesday, 09 Sep, 2011 0

Global GDS Amadeus is working with air transport communications specialist SITA to offer real-time baggage tracking content in its Altéa solution.

Once the Amadeus solution is interfaced with SITA’s system it will give passengers updates on baggage and where it might be located after it fails to show up on the airport’s baggage belt.

Altéa Baggage Tracking taps SITA’s baggage messaging technology and incorporates into the Amadeus Altéa departure control features.

It is still in the development phase and will need to be set up at 54 airports worldwide to make introduction practical.

Once it is active at airports, the project will move on to integration with the flight management module of Altéa in order to communicate accurate information on baggage for load and balance control.

Amadeus is selling its Altéa Baggage Tracking to airlines claiming it will reduce costs involved when baggage goes missing and will drive other baggage management cost savings.

According to SITA’s 7th Annual Baggage Report, 29.4 million bags were delayed on arrival in 2010, which translates into a cost of US$2.94 billion for airlines.
