Low-carbon road trip showcase Portugal’s sustainable tourism credentials
VisitPortugal aims to help strengthen Portugal’s position as a sustainable tourism destination
It has partnered with Full Fixtures to promote The Rout-e Project.
The Rout-e Project involves five sustainable routes that will be travelled by visitors across five days, on high-performance, fully electric motorcycles.
The project promotes responsible travel, surrounding nature, local cuisine, local products from each region and social responsibility.
The first tour is taking place in the Porto & North region this week passing through the cities of Porto, Douro, Arouca and Gaia in partnership with Visit Porto&North.
In 2022, The Route-eProject will have new routes through Central Portugal, Lisbon, Alentejo and the Algarve showcasing diverse landscapes as well as historic and cultural landmarks.
The Rout-e Project aims to showcase one of the most sustainable ways of getting around the country and reduce the environmental footprint when travelling.
"Tourism is a resilient From now on, Portugal’s main focus will be on greater coordination of public and private efforts and, of course, on investing in sustainable projects," Luis Araujo, President of Turismo de Portugal, said.
VisitPortugal intends to showcase Portugal as one of the most competitive and sustainable countries in line with the 2027 Tourism Strategy and the 2020-2023 Sustainable Tourism Plan.
