Lufthansa follows BA in cancelling mainland China flights
Lufthansa has become the latest carrier to cancel flights to China over coronavirus concerns.
The airline has suspended flights to and from mainland China until February 9 and bookings for February are no longer being taken. The move also applies to subsidiaries Swiss and Austrian Airlines. Hong Kong flights are not currently affected.
The decision follows similar moves by British Airways and several Asian carriers, including Lion Air Group, Air India and Seoul Air.
American Airlines has said it will not fly to Shanghai and Beijing from February 9 to March 27.
KLM is scaling down its Shanghai flights, from 11 to seven a week and is cutting flights to Chengdu, Hangzhou and Xiamen.
Virgin Atlantic is continuing to fly to Shanghai from London and said it is monitoring the situation.
Latest figures show deaths from the virus rose to 170 with more than 7,700 confirmed cases in China and infections spreading to at least 16 other countries.
Royal Caribbean Cruises has cancelled sailings on its China-based Spectrum of the Seas until February 8.
The World Health Organisation is meeting today to discuss whether to announce a global emergency over the virus.
