Lufthansa says 113,000 people affected by flight cancellations
Lufthansa has said around 113,000 passengers will be affected by flight cancellations due to today’s cabin crew strike.
The German airline has been forced to cancel around 929 continental and intercontinental flights out of its 3,000 planned connections.
The Independent Flight Attendant’s Organization (UFO) announced strike action on all Lufthansa flights from/ to Frankfurt and Dusseldorf today, between 4.30 and 23.00 and flights from/to Munich, between 4.30 and 00.00.
Exceptions to the cancellations are a few flights between Munich and Frankfurt to London Heathrow, Dublin, Ashgabat, Delhi, Hong Kong and Tokyo.
Flights operated by Lufthansa CityLine, Germanwings, Eurowings, Air Dolomiti, Austrian Airlines, SWISS and Brussels Airlines are not affected by potential strike actions and will therefore run as planned.
Members of the UFO union are planning further strike action throughout the week at further airports.
There have been a series of walkouts since April 2014 in the continued dispute over early retirement benefits and Lufthansa’s plans to expand its budget operations.
