Lufthansa scrubs 1,300 flights as airport strikes begin
Flag carrier Lufthansa said it cancelled more than 1,300 flights scheduled for today as airport strikes begin across the country.
The Verdi union called strikes at seven German airports, including Lufthansa hubs Frankfurt and Munich, as well as Bremen and Hamburg.
Lufthansa said all flights were cancelled at Frankfurt and Munich today.
“We regret the enormous impact of this strike, which is being carried out at the expense of our passengers,” Lufthansa said.
“We are not party to the collective bargaining and have no influence on it.”
There are at least another1,000 flights cancelled which are operated by other airlines due to the airport strikes.
It is expected to impact about 300,000 passengers.
Lufthansa has offered rebooking and options on rail services ‘where possible.’
Services will be ‘largely back to normal’ by Saturday, it said.
The union is seeking a 10% pay increase.
It comes just two days after major flight disruption caused by an IT outage.
