Luton Airport to get express train service to London

Luton Airport is to get an express train service to London from December 2020, which will ultimately reduce the journey time from the capital to the terminal to a little over 30 minutes.

East Midlands Railway said an all-electric fleet of trains, operated by Abellio, will run between Luton Airport Parkway station and London St Pancras station every half an hour from December next year.

From 20201, the London express service will link to a transit service running between Parkway station and the airport.

Currently, passengers are bussed between the airport and the Parkway, and the shortest journey time between the Parway and St Pancras is 32 minutes on a train that makes at least two stops en route.

Luton Airport chief executive Alberto Martin said: "We welcome the arrival of EMR and the commitment to provide an express-style service to the airport every half an hour from December 2020.

"Along with the arrival of the £225m Direct Air-Rail Transit service in 2021, linking Luton Airport Parkway station directly with the airport terminal, we will see a step change in rail connectivity between London and its fastest-growing airport.

"Once the developments are completed, passengers will be able to reach the airport terminal in a little under half an hour from central London.

"This transformation of service with its own sub brand, website, easier ticketing and dedicated platform at St Pancras will be welcomed by all passengers who travel to us by rail."
