Luxembourg rail services heavily disrupted until mid-September due to works

Passengers planning to travel to, from, or within Luxembourg by train should brace for major disruptions this summer. Due to essential infrastructure maintenance, a necessary reduction of rail services will take place between July 11 and September 14, 2025.
The high-speed TGV line between Paris and Luxembourg via Metz and Thionville will also be affected, with replacement bus services operating between Bettembourg, Luxembourg City, and Thionville.
To maintain high-quality rail infrastructure and accommodate growing mobility demands, Luxembourg’s national railway company CFL temporarily suspends four key routes. The upgrading affects various periods within the two-month window.
The lines are in fact critical cross-border links with France and Germany. Their closure will complicate the access to Luxembourg for travellers -commuters and tourists. A single international line will meanwhile stay opened. The Luxembourg–Arlon (Belgium) is indeed the only fully operational route throughout the summer.
Closure affect four main lines :
- Luxembourg – Esch/Alzette – Rodange: July 11 – September 14
- Luxembourg – Thionville – Metz (France): July 11 – September 14
- Luxembourg – Ettelbruck – Troisvierges – Gouvy: July 19 – August 10
- Luxembourg – Wasserbillig – Trier (Germany): August 23 – September 14
To ease the impact during the quieter summer travel period, CFL will deploy over 200 bus drivers operating more than 1,100 daily replacement journeys. Replacement buses will serve several alternate stations around Luxembourg City to avoid overcrowding at the central bus terminal. Key bus departure and arrival points include Rocade Station (Bonnevoie), Boulevard Paul Eyschen (Limpertsberg), and Luxexpo (Kirchberg).
Travelers can consult detailed bus timetables via the CFL journey planner at www.cfl.lu, or through the CFL Mobile and Mobiliteit.lu apps. CFL warns that journey times may increase by 25 to 45 minutes depending on the route.
