Walworth Castle – luxury fit for a king

Walworth Castle Hotel is situated three miles from the market town of Darlington and the A1 Motorway. This 12th century castle sprawling over 18 acres was refurbished into a hotel in 1981. Drenched in history, Walworth castle boasts of accommodating King James I in its heydays. Later in the 18th century it was used as an Officer’s Mess during the war.

The hotel has seven function rooms of various sizes to accommodate wedding ceremonies, private banquets, conferences, training and seminars. Wireless broadband is available free for guests throughout the hotel and the function rooms are all wired for sound and vision. You can also enjoy watching the children play on the lawn, which has an adventurous climbing frame area, add that medieval touch to enhance your special event with the flame torches.

Hansards Library and The Farmers Bar are the two restaurants within the hotel where you will get unmatched service and never get bored of food. Hansard’s Library Tower is a 16th century room, richly decorated in cream, burgundy and gold and is available for private parties of 2 to 8.

The Farmers Bar is a traditional English pub with hearty good food. The Farmers Bar is open every day at lunchtime, 7 days a week from 12 noon to 2:00 PM and from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM, where food is served until 9.30 PM. You can also enjoy traditional bar, meals and sandwiches around a roaring log fire, which is locally known as Carvery meals.

Walworth Castle Hotel offers a magnificent setting for your wedding reception, with the castle as the perfect background. Over time it has become the hotel of choice for business delegates too. In terms of corporate hospitality, the hotel provides paintballing, 4X4 off road driving, clay pigeon shooting, quad biking and raft building in the hotel?s grounds. The private function suites of the hotel are decorated beautifully with food and service of unmatched quality.

Walworth Castle Hotel provides 34 rooms to its guests. The tariffs range from ?75.00 for a single room to ?235.00 for a King Games Suite. Nearby attractions from the hotel include Barnard Castle, Holy Island, Linsdisfarne, Metro Centre, Newcastle, Darlington and the historic city of York.
