Luxury travelers inclined to use internet, too
Nearly nine in ten consumers who go on high-end vacations use the internet to shop for travel, says a new survey.
The vast majority of these 87%, or 61%, also use the internet to buy their most recent vacation, according to Yahoo Search Marketing.
The company interviewed 401 luxury travelers, defined as those who had stayed in luxury hotels at least twice in the past two years.
The majority of those surveyed or 57% sought information from general search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN.
More than half or 54% also reported visiting online travel agencies to research airfares, hotels and other travel venues.
Among the group purchasing online, almost half made a purchase from an online travel agent. Another 41% bought directly from an airline supplier; still another 10% used both agents and suppliers.
The travelers in the survey had average incomes of at least $70,000.
