Majority of agents ‘concerned’ about no-deal Brexit
As the UK edges ever closer to a no-deal Brexit, travel agents have expressed their concern at how crashing out of the European Union will affect their business.
In a recent TravelMole survey, almost 55% of agents said they were worried about the possibility of leaving the EU without a deal.
MPs will vote on February 27 on a motion to postpone the March 29 deadline to avoid Britain leaving the EU next month without a new trading agreement.
Several cabinet have allegedly threatened to resign to delay Brexit if no deal has been reached before March 29.
On Thursday, a fifth of Conservative MPs voted against Prime Minister Theresa May’s latest motion on Brexit, which they felt weakened the threat of a no-deal exit as a negotiating tactic with the EU.
Downing Street said May will return to Brussels to carry on with talks but warned that the vote had made no deal ‘more likely’. Former
Former Attorney General and leading Remain campaigner Dominic Grieve told the Evening Standard that if May failed to remove the threat of no deal there could be resignations on a scale that might bring down the Government. "I think we are talking about a dozen or even more," he said.
"My understanding is that many of them have made representations directly to the Prime Minister, indicating their concern and telling the Prime Minister that if by the end of February there is no deal that has been got through the Commons, we ought to extend."
