Malaysia Airlines COO becomes new chief executive
Izham Ismail is the latest to fill the hot seat at Malaysia Airlines.
Long serving Izham takes over as CEO following the departure of Irishman Peter Bellew who returns to Ryanair.
Izham officially assumes the role on December 1 and was most recently COO.
He began his career with Malaysia Airlines as a pilot and progressively climbed the ranks at the airline with positions including senior instructor pilot, fleet manager, and director of operations.
He was also CEO of MASwings, a sister company which operates in the East Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak.
He becomes the third chief executive in as many years
Malaysia Airlines chairman Md Nor Yusof said: "He has a valuable breadth of understanding that spans airline operations and business management. I am proud that he is our own internal home grown talent and I am confident that he will be able to take the airline further forward and ensure the turnaround plan is met."
Nor Yusof will head a Board Executive Committee for up to six months to ensure a smooth transition.
"My entire career has been spent with Malaysia Airlines and it is very much my family. I am looking forward to working with my MH colleagues to make this airline the pride of the nation again," Izham said.
