Malaysia Airlines, JAL get clearance for joint business
Malaysia Airlines and Japan Airlines plan to move forward with their planned joint business cooperation after regulators in both countries gave the green light.
The Malaysian Aviation Commission granted an individual exemption, while Japan`s ministry of land, infrastructure, transport and tourism approved antitrust immunity for the joint venture.
It allows the carriers to cooperate commercially, enabling them to coordinate schedules, marketing functions, enhance flight connections and integrate frequent flyer benefits.
JAL president Yuji Akasaka expects the JV to launch next year ahead of the Tokyo Oly,pic Games.
"We are excited about the opportunities the joint business provides for both airlines. We are confident that with this partnership, we will be able to deliver important benefits to our customers and to grow the business between our countries," said Malaysia Airlines CEO Captain Izham Ismail.
