Malaysia plans to open travel corridors for six ‘green’ countries
Inbound tourism to Malaysia could soon get the green light.
It is in talks to open travel corridors with six ‘green’ countries – Singapore, Brunei, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea.
However it would only go ahead for two-way travel.
Access between Malaysia and these countries has to be ‘mutual and reciprocal,’ said health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
"We need to discuss and finalise the SOP between the countries. For example, do we need to quarantine the arrivals? We are still in an early stage of discussion," Noor said.
Both sides need to agree on the conditions. If we can do that, we can allow the business, education and tourism sectors to be opened up."
Noor said neighbour Singapore is included but not for Singapore’s migrant workers who have taken the brunt of Covid-19 infections.
"We probably can allow Singaporeans who have not travelled to other countries recently. This is the kind of discussion we must have with these countries," he added.
