Man charged after suspect package seized at Manchester Airport
A man has been arrested and charged after security staff at Manchester Airport detected a suspicious package during security screening.
Manchester police say the man from Bury has been charged with an offence under the Explosives Substance Act.
Nadeem Muhammed, of Tinline Street, Bury has been remanded into custody and is due to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court today.
Police said on January 30 a man was stopped at Manchester Airport after a suspicious package was identified passing through security.
Airport security stopped the man and the package was seized. The man was questioned by police officers and then released for further investigation to take place.
Following further enquiries by officers from the North West Counter Terrorism Unit, officers searched an address at Tinline Street.
On Sunday an arrest warrant from Westminster Magistrates’ Court was issued and a 43-year-old man was arrested.
“This incident has demonstrated that the airport checks were effective with a suspicious package successfully being identified,” said police.
