Man charged with uttering bomb threat on Hawaii bound flight
A man was arrested and charged after forcing an evacuation of a plane at San Diego International Airport over a false bomb threat.
John Stea, 35, an active military member, was charged with making a false bomb threat and false report of a security threat.
It led to the evacuation of a Hawaiian Airlines flight.
All 283 passengers and 10 crew members were evacuated safely.
It happened just after the plane left the gate to take off for Honolulu..
The airline said Stea was overheard saying he had a bomb on board.
The pilot ushered the plane to a safe place at the airport.
“During pushback from the gate, a guest was overheard making a threat to the safety of our aircraft,” said Melissa Villegas, spokesperson for Hawaiian Airlines.
“As a precaution, the captain immediately taxied the Airbus A330 to a safe location on the airfield where it was met with local and federal law enforcement and guests were safely deplaned.”
