Man sectioned after Manchester airport closed by hoax bomb threat
A man has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act after a bomb hoax resulted in RAF jets escorting a Qatar Airways flight in to land.
The 47 year-old was assessed by medical staff and again by a mental health team after the incident at Manchester Airport yesterday.
The A330 aircraft, with 269 passengers onboard, was travelling from Doha to Manchester when pilots became concerned there was an explosive device onboard.
Jets from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire escorted the plane as it approached Manchester to report what they could see onboard.
The airport was temporarily closed and nine aircraft had to be diverted to other airports, but the Manchester runway has since re-opened.
