Many passengers prepared to pay for convenience

A fifth of air passengers say they would travel within 50 miles of either departure or arrival airport to save money.
But 43% will pay more to fly from their nearest airport to the airport closest to their final destination.
Fourteen per cent are willing to travel up to 100 miles to/from either airport, and 12% would travel within 100 miles of the departure airport, but wanted the closest arrival airport.
Some low cost carriers are known for flying to airports which are a long way outside of the city they claim to serve.
For example, Ryanair flies to Frankfurt-Hahn airport in Germany which is a two hour bus drive from Frankfurt city.
The poll by travel search site Skyscanner suggests that convenience remains an important factor when it comes to buying flights.
And almost half of air travellers don’t want to add extra travel time to their journeys, even if it means saving money on their flights.
Company director and co-founder Barry Smith said: “Always weigh up the pros and cons of a cheaper flight from a more distant airport.
“Budget is vital to everyone, now more than ever, and savings can be made if you’re flexible and can travel to an alternative airport.
“However, travellers need to factor in the extra cost of getting to/from a more distant airport as well as the extra time added to their journey.”
