Many reasons for more meeting planners to use the Web

Tuesday, 13 Oct, 2005 0

What’s behind the 35% increase in the past two years for meeting planners using the internet as a planning tool?

“The reasons are several-fold and range from the accelerated speed at which planners are now expected to organize events to the sheer availability of Web-enabled technologies,” says Successful Meetings.

“The industry as a whole has recognized that we can organize meetings more quickly and efficiently with the help of this type of technology, so speed has become an expectation,” said Terri Breining, president of Concepts Worldwide.

The corporate meeting market slowed down considerably after 9-11. Businesses ranging from hotel companies to CVB’s often responded by upgrading their Web plans with more detailed floor plans and virtual tours.

Hotel companies in particular are offering more tools on their sites to assist meeting planners with tactical decisions. These include tools that even help planners create price comparison reports.
