Marmaris named cheapest resort for beach holiday ‘extras’
Marmaris has been named the cheapest destination when it comes to the cost of beach holiday ‘extras’ on a family holiday.
In the latest Post Office Travel Money Family Holiday Report, it was found to be the cheapest of 15 popular resorts surveyed.
Thanks to a slump in the value of the Turkish lira against sterling since last summer, Brits can expect to pay £57 for 12 ‘Beach Barometer’ items, including a sun hat, sun lotion, bucket and spade, sun-lounger, pedalo, banana boat ride and an ice cream.
Following closely behind was the Costa del Sol (£63), Sunny Beach (£64); Crete (£70); Limassol (£70) and Porec (£74).
The most expensive destinations were Nice (£118), Sorrento (£114), Ibiza (£97) and Corfu (£87).
The Post Office report also found that ‘pester power’ by kids set parents back £184 on their last holiday.
Some 92% of parents admitted splashing out almost £39 on ice creams, up 28% year-on-year, while other budget busters were water park visits (£61), pedalo rides (£31) and beach gear like buckets & spades, swimming goggles and lilos (£53).
"The clear message is to plan ahead: pack what you can to avoid forking out cash on basics like suncream and insect repellent and squeeze last year’s beach gear for the kids into the suitcase," said Andrew Brown of Post Office Travel Money.
"The Beach Barometer reveals just how much these items can cost – especially in some of Europe’s more expensive resorts.
Prices were supplied by National and Regional Tourist Offices of participating countries, except for Bulgaria where they were supplied by Balkan Holidays and in Majorca when they were collated by Monarch Holidays.
