Marriot branded hotel checking in to Belize
Marriott International is to open its first Marriott branded hotel in Belize.
The company sealed an agreement with ECI Development to introduce the Belize Marriott Ambergris Caye Resort and Residences on the country’s biggest island.
The 203-room oceanfront resort will feature up to 70 branded residences and hotel amenities comprise restaurants, a rooftop lounge, event space, spa, and fitness center.
Work begins later this year and it is slated to open in 2020.
"We are thrilled to bring the Marriott Hotels’ brand to Ambergris Caye, one of the Caribbean’s most beautiful island destinations. We are particularly excited about the opportunity to deliver top-quality lodging and residences in this special place," said Michael Cobb, chairman and CEO of ECI Development.
Earlier this year, Marriott’s independent brand Autograph Collection announced plans for the Alaia, a new boutique resort which will also be located on Ambergris Caye.
Ambergris Caye is noted for its excellent scuba diving with access to the Belize Barrier Reef – the largest reef system in the northern hemisphere.
"We recognize the critical importance of conservation and protection of this reef system and are pleased to be working with a global company known for its environmental commitment," said Joel Nagel, ECI Development’s co-founder.
