Marriott downsizing at Starwood head office

Monday, 03 Nov, 2016 0

Marriott International has announced the first downsizing moves since its takeover of Starwood Hotel & Resorts.

It reportedly plans to lay off about 163 employees based at current Starwood headquarters in Stamford, CT.

Most of the job cuts are managers, executives and administrative staffers, according to the Hartford Courant newspaper.

"When we announced the merger we said that there would be some duplication of functions — mostly at the corporate level," company spokeswoman Felicia McLemore said in a statement.

"While we don’t have an exact number of jobs that will be impacted in Stamford at this time, we will know more about staffing decisions as we continue the integration process."

The proposed layoffs will likely happen early next year.

Marriott is currently hunting for a site for a new corporate headquarters for the combined company.

The company said it is in talks for a new HQ in downtown Bethesda, MD, close to its current corporate offices.
