Marriott hails record year for Asia hotel signings
Marriott International closed out 2023 with strong global net rooms growth and a record year of organic signings.
It also highlighted a surge in hotel and residences openings and signings in the Asia Pacific excluding China (APEC) region.
There was particularly true in top travel markets such as Japan, India and Vietnam.
It set a milestone in APEC with over 60 properties added last year, to more than 560 operating hotels and residences in the region.
It exceeding 10% net rooms growth compared to 2022.
Marriott also sealed a record of over 80 Asia hotel deals signed across 13 markets, representing around 18,000 rooms.
At the end of 2023, Marriott’s APEC development pipeline stood at over 320 hotels with over 69,000 rooms.
In 2023, 15% of the deals signed were in luxury Asia hotels.
Nine luxury hotels opened in the region including The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne which was Marriott’s 1,000th hotel in the Asia Pacific region.
The JW Marriott Goa debuted the brand in Goa and was the company’s 150th hotel to open in South Asia.
“With our record year of growth in APEC, we remain committed to a diverse portfolio of brands and strategic presence in new destinations,” said Rajeev Menon, President, Marriott International, APEC.
Marriott Bonvoy – Marriott’s travel program has seen membership surge by 50% since 2019.
