Marriott passes one million rooms milestone
Global hotel group Marriott International Inc has reached the milestone of one million rooms open or under development after adding more than 100 hotels to its portfolio in the second quarter.
Bethesda-based Marriott said its development pipeline now consists of 1,500 hotels and 250,000 rooms.
CEO Arne M. Sorenson says Marriott reached the one million room milestone six months ahead of plan, boosted by its recent acquisition of Canadian brand Delta Hotels.
"We opened over 20,000 rooms in the second quarter including 9,600 rooms in Canada from our acquisition of the Delta Hotels and Resorts brand. We see great growth potential for Delta around the world."
"In just the last two months, we have received inquiries regarding the possible conversion of more than 50 hotels in the US and Canada to the Delta brand," Sorenson said.
Marriott’s net income was $240 million on revenue of $3.7 billion during the second quarter and expects full year revenue per available room to remain steady at about 6.5%.
