Maui wildfire forces hotel evacuation
Guests and workers at a five-star hotel in Maui were forced to evacuate late Sunday as a brushfire threatened to engulf the property.
The fast-moving wildfire swept through Wailea and everyone at the Hotel Wailea was evacuated within two hours of the fire starting.
The hotel shut off propane tanks as guests were taken to an emergency shelter.
The Grand Wailea Hotel lost power as the fire raged close to a substation.
The blaze was still ‘actively burning’ and not yet under control, the Maui Fire department said.
Fire officials are still unsure how many acres have been scorched by latee Sunday.
