May Day protests target capital cities
Protests are being staged in capitals around the world today to mark May Day.
Major labour demonstrations are due to take place in towns and cities across Spain and Portugal amid rising social unrest.
In Greece protests are planned throughout the country along with strike action.
In Paris, National Front leader Marine Le Pen is leading a march to the statue of Joan of Arc, an iconic figure for the far right.
The final round of France’s presidential election is due to take place on Sunday.
Meanwhile in the US, rallies by ‘The Occupy’ movement are due to disrupt afternoon rush hour in New York and anther protest has been called on San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge.
Rallies have also been taking place in cities across Australia and Asia.
