Meeting focus: Dallas
Convention-goers will find a top-to-bottom makeover of the Dallas Marriott City Center, including upgraded guest rooms, a new restaurant and a state-of-the-art fitness facility overlooking downtown Dallas.
The year-long project also includes a renovated lobby area and the addition of the largest concierge lounge in the Marriott system.
"If this were a TV show, it would have been called Extreme Hotel Makeover," said Terri Dolan, regional vice president for the Marriott’s Western Region. "The difference is dramatic."’¨
The Marriott Dallas City Center offers more than 400 rooms, 25,000 square feet of meeting space, along with a 15-story atrium that opens to a dining and retail complex, complete with an indoor ice-skating arena. It had been a Westin property since 2003 until Marriott took over management of the property in late 2010.
The 2.2 million square foot Dallas Convention Center was recently awarded a LEED EB Silver Certification.
The Convention Center’s green building programs and features include: alternative transportation options; energy efficient lighting with reduced mercury content; environmentally sensitive cleaning products and practices, reduction of indoor potable water through low-flow fixtures and the replacement of one cooling tower; and a comprehensive recycling program.
Dallas itself offers about 70,000 hotel rooms to accommodate larger conventions.
