Meeting-goers find easy going in New Orleans

Thursday, 27 Feb, 2007 0

The test was the first major planners conference since Hurricane Katrina. And New Orleans by all accounts was easily ‘the big easy.’

The city had its largest gathering of planners, Meeting Professionals International’s Professional Education Conference, since Katrina in August of 2005.

“By all accounts, the tourist areas of the city  —  particularly the two-mile area between the convention center, the French Quarter and Jackson Square, where most of the upscale business hotels are located  —  were open for business, clean, and buzzing with New Orleans spirit,” said a front-page report in Meeting News.

Conference attendees said the city had the same graciousness as it has in the past with perhaps some improvement in service.

“Not even Noah’s flood could have dampened the extraordinary hospitality we experienced,” said Carol Krugman, director of client services for George P. Johnson, a marketing company.

“We had 2,600 conferees see that New Orleans is back,” added Bruce MacMillan, president and CEO of the planners group.
