Meininger Hotels to add 7 properties in Europe including Dublin, Madrid and Porto
Meininger Hotels, a German group with hybrid properties combining hostel style and traditional hotel rooms, is expanding in Europe adding 7 properties until 2028. Major expansion is planned in Barcelona, Dublin, Edinburgh, Kiel, Madrid, Porto and Strasbourg.
This year, the company will inaugurate two properties. The first one marks Meininger entry in Spain with a 162-room hotel in Barcelona. Meininger Barcelona Fira Gran Via will open its doors in April, just across the Catalan capital’s trade fair and exhibitions.
It will be followed by Meininger first property in the UK. Meininger Edinburgh Haymarket is due to open in July with a total of 157 rooms.

2027: Kiel, Madrid and Strasbourg
In 2027, Meininger will move into three more cities : in January, Meininger will open in Kiel, the most northern regional capital in Germany. The property, with its 177 rooms, will be located in a spectacular skyscraper of the Schleswig Holstein capital.
It will be followed by a Madrid property, due to open in April. The Meininger Madrid will have 193 rooms and will be along Avenida del Mediterraneo, just 500 meters from the famous Retiro Park.
Also due to open around the same time is a brand new hotel in Strasbourg, France. The 114-room Meininger Hotel will face Strasbourg central rail station.

2028: Dublin and Porto
In 2028, the group will inaugurate two more hotels: Porto is due to come in January 2028 with a 228-room property, located in the trendy district of Bonfim.
It will be followed by a Dublin hotel. Developed in collaboration with partner Salamisso Developments, the Dublin property building will comprise 232 rooms with a total of 811 beds. This includes 75 double rooms, 33 triple rooms, 91 quadruple rooms, and 33 six-bed rooms, in line with the brand’s flexible room concept. The opening is scheduled for April 2028.
“The new location in Dublin strengthens our position in the British and Irish market and is an important component of our European growth strategy. With the new property, we are responding to the strong demand and limited capacity in the local hotel sector. Together with Salamisso Developments, we aim to offer our guests an attractive, centrally located accommodation at a fair price”, says Ajit Menon, CEO of Meininger Hotels.
This will bring the portfolio of 36 hotels to continuous growth, with a medium-term target of 50 locations across Europe. Meininger Hotels focuses on carefully planned hotel projects rather than rapid mass openings.
“Our goal is to gradually expand our proven hybrid concept, a combination of hotel and hostel, into European markets and establish additional locations, while maintaining quality and sustainability without compromise,” concludes Ajit Menon.
