Melbourne Airport notches milestone with first Seoul flights
Melbourne Airport has achieved a new record as 2023 draws to a close.
The airport welcomed the inaugural Asiana Airlines flight from Seoul, making it the 38th international carrier to serve Melbourne.
This is a new record.
Asiana’s seasonal Seoul flights operate twice a week on 311-seat, three-class Airbus A350 aircraft.
Flights operate every Tuesday and Thursday from Melbourne.
Melbourne Airport Chief of Aviation Jim Parashos said it marks another major milestone for Victoria state.
“Until now, Seoul was one of our largest unserved markets,” he said.
“These direct services will mean passengers and Victorian exporters can avoid the cost and inconvenience of transiting through another city to reach South Korea.”
The airport recently became the first in Australia to exceed pre-pandemic international seat capacity.
“This is testament to the efforts of teams at both Melbourne Airport and the Victorian State Government.”
“We are hopeful it will pave the way for regular, year-round flights in the future.”
