Mexican tourists not blown away by hurricanes
Despite an active hurricane season, Mexico had a record tourist year for 2005 and is on tract for a busier last year as well, according to tourism officials.
Said Mexico Tourism Secretary Rodolfo Elizond:
“Mexico continues to attract millions of international visitors each year, highlighting the diversity and attractiveness of our tourism offerings, as well as the warmth of our people.”
Mexico had almost 22 million international visitors in 2005, or a 6.5% increase over the previous year.
International visitors spend an average of $679 per person, which was also higher than the previous year.
Visitors arriving by air and by cruise ships were also up. And finally, hotel occupancy was also at almost 58%, or a half percentage point higher than the previous year.
