Miami Airport in talks over nonstop Taiwan flights
Executives at Miami International Airport are in advanced talks with two Taiwan based airlines to bring direct flights from Asia to Miami.
Emilio Gonzlez, Miami-Dade aviation director said he went to Taiwan earlier this year to speak with China Airlines and EVA Air and is in ‘near constant contact.’
"The idea is to get them to commit to flying to Miami within the next 24 months," Gonzalez said.
A flight of that distance would take about 18 hours, Gonzalez said, but both airlines have new planes capable of flying the route nonstop.
"If one day we have a direct flight from Taiwan, that means investment from Taiwan will come here more easily," said Philip T.Y. Wang, director general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office based in Miami.
Wang added that China Airlines has operated cargo flights to MIA for several years.
