Midcounties buys south west independent
Midcounties Co-op Travel has bought eight Travel Angels stores in the south west.
An independent chain, Travel Angels opened its first shop in Frome, Somerset, in 1993 and now has shops in Chard, Gillingham, Melksham, Shaftesbury, Street, Swindon and Warminster.
It employs 35 staff, all of who will be kept on by the new owner.
Travel Angels managing director Peter Grayson and director David Logan founded the business. Grayson is to remain as a consultant to integrate the business into Midcounties.
Midcounties also plans to keep the Travel Angels name.
The purchase brings Midcounties’ portfolio to 50 stores.
The group wants to triple the number of stores in the next year, particularly focusing on strengthening its links with Bristol and Birmingham airports.
