Milan Bergamo Airport welcomed nearly five million summer travellers
Milan Bergamo Airport hailed a successful peak summer season, welcoming 4.8 million passengers between June and August 2025.
These results were supported by new services, infrastructure developments and strong demand across many key markets.
The airport says passenger growth was particularly strong in non-Schengen markets, which rose 1.7% year-on-year to 1.05 million passengers, driven by expanded connectivity and new routes.
It points to Egypt as a standout performer, recording a 36% increase in traffic.
This was fuelled by the arrival of Air Cairo with new services from Sharm El Sheikh.
Bosnia and Herzegovina almost doubled its traffic, growing 96% to 17,342 passengers, following the launch of SkyAlps’ flights to Mostar and the continued strong traffic to Sarajevo.
The UAE continues to be one of Milan Bergamo’s fastest-growing markets, serving as a key hub for onward travel globally.
Bangkok, Colombo, Kuala Lumpur, the Maldives, Zanzibar and Phuket were among the most popular connecting points for Bergamo passengers this summer.
Traffic to Dubai remained stable with a double-daily service throughout August, while Sharjah recorded a notable 21% increase in passenger numbers during the peak summer months.
Spain was Milan Bergamo’s leading international market over the three-month period, while flights to Greece, Portugal, France and Turkey also recorded consistently strong demand.
The expansion of the check-in area nearly doubled the number of counters from 34 to 64, including 22 self-drop units, improving efficiency and reducing wait times during peak hours.
Giacomo Cattaneo, Director of Commercial Aviation, SACBO, said: “We are pleased with Milan Bergamo Airport’s performance over the peak summer months, particularly the continued growth we have seen across our non-Schengen markets.”
“The strategic investments we made in infrastructure upgrades ahead of the season, including expanded check-in facilities and enhanced passenger processing areas, have paid off.”
Milan Bergamo Airport’s focus is now the winter season, with strong demand expected in the run-up to the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics.
