Miles Morgan goes in TUI UK shake-up
Thomson sales and marketing director Miles Morgan and Thomsonfly managing director Maurice Boyle have been axed in a major management shake-up.
David Burling becomes commercial director, taking responsibility for marketing, while head of new media Graham Donoghue takes the role of new media director.
Derek Jones joins the board in the newly created role of sales director with responsibility for retail and direct sales for the main tour operating business plus facilities, PR and internal communications.
A newly-created role of airline and planning director goes to Colin Mitchell, who also becomes managing director of Thomsonfly.
Unveiling the changes which take effect immediately, TUI UK managing director Peter Rothwell said: “In order to accelerate our progress towards becoming the UK’s number one web-based leisure travel company and to maximise further integration benefits of operating as one business, I have decided to make a number of changes to the board of directors.”
Donoghue, who reports to Burling, will ensure web innovation and growth is at the centre of the board’s strategic thinking, added Rothwell.
“The web will become the primary distribution channel for all our customers, be they shops, call centres or at home and it is vital that we take every opportunity to exploit its potential,” he said.
Morgan joined the company in 1999, becoming sales and marketing director in 2004. He led the operator’s move to cut commissions, announced at last year’s ABTA Convention.
Boyle joined Thomsonfly in 1998 as passenger services director and took over as the airline’s managing director last August.
ABTA has cancelled a lunch that Morgan was due to speak at on July 12.
