The American public is really embracing the solar eclipse experience, with potentially millions traveling to view the phenomenon.

The solar eclipse will cast a shadow across America on April 8 for several minutes.

Longwoods International released its latest American Travel Sentiment tracking study and asked respondents about their solar eclipse travel plans.

One out of five (22%) of travelers say they are planning to travel to see the eclipse on April, with 14% of expect to travel greater than 50 miles.

Of those planning to go more than 50 miles, 73% plan to spend at least one night on the road.

Around 43% are planning a short 1-2 night getaway while around 30% plan trips of three nights or longer.

Overall, the survey finds travel sentiment is still around record post-pandemic levels with 93% of American travelers still planning to take a trip in the next six months.

Road trip travel to visit friends and family still leads the way over personal getaways.
