Mobile phone travel service woos agents
Agents could tap into a new source of revenue with the introduction of a service offering travel information on mobile phones.
The mobiholiday service is being demonstrated to agents and other travel suppliers at the ABTA Travel Convention in Marbella.
Mobiholiday enables consumers to download holiday information specific to their destination on a range of subjects including food and drink, accommodation, transport and sightseeing.
The information is downloaded prior to departure to avoid costly roaming charges.
Travel agents can get involved by promoting the service to their customers with commission levels of up to 45% depending on volumes sold.
Consumers are likely to pay between 29 and 55 euros depending on how much information they want.
The service, which has been created by Marbella-based Media Delivery Technologies, is being demonstrated during the convention to gauge agents’ feedback.
Operators and other travel suppliers can also get involved in mobiholiday by sponsoring downloads or putting their branding on pages of information relevant to their companies.
Managing director David Barnes said: “I’m looking for feedback from as many agents and travel suppliers as possible on what travellers want, how we can improve the service and whether the cost structure and commission levels are appropriate.”
Mobiholiday will be launched to consumers early next year.
