Monarch sees rise in summer traffic
Monarch Airlines’ scheduled services saw a 19% increase in passenger numbers during the August peak travel period.
Much of the growth was due to new flights as the airline had 16.5% more capacity year on year, but the airline said load factors – the percentage of available seats sold – also improved by 1.7%.
Managing director Kevin George said: "Achieving a load factor of 94.5%, well above the industry norm, is an excellent result for the airline."
The airline carried 748,325 passengers in August compared with 630,820 in August 2011. New for this year were flights to Turkey and Egypt from both Gatwick and Manchester.
Monarch also launched its first TV campaign this summer, with a 30-second advert running for three weeks in the North West and Midlands regions.
