Montreal and Mexico join hands to boost tourism
Tourism leaders from Montreal and Mexico have signed an agreement to help boost tourism arrivals to both cities.
Under a memorandum of understanding Tourisme Montréal and the Mexico Tourism Board will collaborate on various initiatives to increase tourism and undergo data sharing to better target promotional campaigns.
They plan to work together on performance indicators, statistics, tourist welcome strategies and technology solutions.
"This initiative bolsters what was already a close working relationship between Montreal and Mexico City, particularly on the economic level," said Valérie Plante, the Mayor of Montréal, during a trade mission in Mexico City.
The number of Mexican tourists visiting Montréal was up 50% in 2017 and Tourisme Montréal expects 15% growth in 2018.
"Tourism is a major driver of economic and social development for both Quebec and Mexico," Tourisme Montreal CEO Yves Lalumiere said.
Overall, Mexico welcomed more than 39 million visitors last year and is targeting 50 million annual arrivals by 2021, said tourism secretary Enrique de la Madrid
