Morairaway scandal will rock private villa rentals

Friday, 11 Jul, 2009 0

Private villa rentals and pure online listings sites are about to be hit by a consumer backlash after Morairaway.com uses them to scam money.
The company used very large listing sites to advertise villas that didn’t exist. Guest have subsequently travelled to Spain to find no accommodation and a locked and empty head office.
The key for consumers is to book with a website that earns it’s revenue from booking commission and not villa adverts. With this business model the rental website has nothing to gain and everything to lose from scam villa adverts. This form of rental website also transacts with credit cards protecting consumers from fraud and allowing charge backs. Under no circumstances should consumers pay cash, cheques or bank transfers to faceless owners through listing sites, it is fraught with danger as these unsuspecting holidaymakers have found to their cost. Consumer champions are all commenting upon this scandal which will affect the traffic to the major sites involved, there is no doubt as to that fact. Genuine villa owners should be urged to find sites that allow credit card transactions and advertise with those sites or face redcution in revenue into the future.
